We’ve all heard about construction nightmares – whether it be the architect who fails to submit plans to Council, to builders absconding with deposits and shoddy / dangerous workmanship. The irony is that it costs more to put right mistakes than it does to build / design properly in the first place. So how do you go about finding reliable & knowledgeable Contractors ? Obviously word of mouth recommendations are the best.
The first step is to make sure that your Architect / Designer is registered with SACAP – the South African Council for the Architectural Profession. It is a legal requirement for anyone practicing Architecture to be registered with this body. You can get a list of registered Architects / Designers at www.sacapsa.com. Your Architect will probably also be able to advise you on contractors etc.
You could also try are the representative bodies / institutions, a list is below – it’s not comprehensive by any means – please let me know if you have any more to add.

council approval of building plan is important and good town planner help you out from this to get approval for your project in limited time.
ReplyDeleteHi Tommy, a town planner is very expensive and most of the ones I have come across are too busy to handle building plan submissions as well. The best thing to do is to hire a courier who will walk your plans through Council. If you need a Courier for your plans please let me know, I have an excellent one that I have been using for the last 9 years.
DeleteHi Blue
ReplyDeleteIts not like that town planner is very expensive and if some of them are then they actually help you out with all the phase of problem whether it could be the minor or the major one.. Same way I have an excellent planner that I have been using and suggesting other and who been having experience of more than 40 year in this field... and if you really looking for one of the good city planner just let me know
A full plans application is where drawings, details and other supporting information is submitted for checking and a formal decision notice is given. Advantages of using this method include the plans can be examined and approved before work starts and that the builder can work to the Council Approval Drawings in the knowledge that the detail complies with the regulations. Most applications are checked within 15 working days of deposit meaning even where work has started, problems can be identified before work reaches an advanced stage. Approved plans may be used for up to three years after deposit even if regulations change.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to joining this blog, It is a very nice experience for me... Thank you for all your postings.
